Spartan Race and January Birchbox!

This weekend was the So Cal Super Spartan Race. My boyfriend and his brother had the crazy idea to sign up for this race months ago and they've been training for it ever since.

If you're unfamiliar here is their official promo video:
When I first saw this video I was like "You are NOT doing that". Clearly... he didn't listen to me.

We headed out to Temecula Saturday morning for the boys' 1:15pm start time. Originally I was kind of bummed that it was supposed to rain but, in retrospect, the weather was actually pretty perfect.

Here we are at the registration booth. I had to sign a waiver just to be a spectator!
Sam and his brother had been looking forward to this race for so long. (They definitely have some strong genes in that family, don't you think?)
The race consisted of about an 8 mile course with 20+ obstacles throughout like, army crawling under barbed wire through mud, swimming through the lake, pulling cinder blocks, flipping tractor tires and much more.

Sams mom and I spent the day cheering for and supporting our boys (and maybe having a few beers along the way ;)) It was my first time really spending a good chunk of one on one time with her and it was a lot of fun.
Sam finished before all of his friends. I am beyond proud of him. He finished and he finished strong and now, all he can talk about is doing the even BIGGER Spartan Race next!

I sent this photo to my mom and she couldn't believe how good he looked after finishing.
Haha. She's always said how cute he is. The first time she met him, she text me shortly after we left with: "OMG cutest ever!"

It was a great day and I can't say enough how proud I am of my man. He set a goal and he finished it. He beat the goals he had for himself and now, he wants to do even more!
So, looks like I'll be a spectator at another Spartan Race again soon.

On another note, I got my Birchbox earlier in the month and just haven't had the time to film a video of it.
Also, I wanted to either get Danica or Stefana to do the video with me to show two different boxes.

So last night Stefana and I were both finally home at the same time and I decided it would be a perfect time to film my latest Birchbox video so, here it is!

In the beginning of the video it is taking everything in me not to hysterically laugh. It's definitely a lot harder to film a video with someone else vs. alone but, we did it and it turned out pretty good.

(Also, if you've missed any of my other Birchbox videos and would like to catch up, you can view them all on my YouTube Channel)

After getting the box for about 7 months now, I might be canceling my subscription soon. And it's not because I don't like the box. It's just that my collection of samples is starting to seem to be a lot of similar products because I've been getting it for awhile now.

Subscription boxes are the hot new thing and there are so many other cool ones that I would love to try. So, we'll see what I end up doing but as for now, I still have my Birchbox subscription and I'll continue making videos.

Jonesing for some Indy!

This past weekend I let my nerd flag fly and I went to the Indiana Jones exhibit at the Discovery Science Center. I wanted to go on my actual birthday but we ended up getting home from the desert so late in the afternoon and I wanted to spend as much time there as I could so we decided to wait until the following weekend.

We ended up going on Saturday and we spent a good chunk of the day there.

In order to get admittance you first have to buy admission to the Science Center itself and then the Indiana Jones exhibit on top of that. So it's best to spend the whole day so that you get your moneys worth, both in the science center and in the exhibit. Not gunna lie, the Science Center itself is very kid-based with lots of hands on activities for kids but we enjoyed it non-the-less.

We did the exhibit first. They give you this handheld interactive device that is hooked to headphones and you punch in where you're at in the exhibit and it tells you about what you're looking at. It was really cool, but it made talking kind of difficult.

Another fun thing was there was a "scavenger hunt" throughout the exhibit and at the end it shows the virtual "artifact" that you helped uncover during the scavenger hunt and it puts your name up on the wall and everything. It was pretty cool.

I think my favorite part was seeing the movie props themselves. Like the infamous Indy costume.

There were lots of costumes on display.

After the Indy costume, I'd say Short Round's was my next favorite. They even had the stilt shoes he wore when he was driving them!

There was also an interactive "play" area which I'm sure was mostly for kids but we of course enjoyed that too.

They also had this little kiosk that took your picture and posted it to either your twitter or your facebook. It turned out pretty good and it's a good way to remember the day.
It was really fun and I definitely recommend it for any other Indy fans out there.

On Sunday I, somehow, convinced Sam to go with me to the Long Beach Antique Market. He recently has gotten really into the show "American Pickers" so I asked him if he'd come with me to "pick" at the flea market and he agreed! I love flea markets, vintage shops and thrift stores. There's something so exciting about going, it's like digging for buried treasure!

I have been looking to replace the table that sits behind my couch in my entryway for awhile. I've been using one that my parents had in storage. After Danica moved out and took the one that we had with her, I've been on the hunt for one just right.

At the flea market I found a perfect one! It was even the perfect shade of teal to match all my fun accessories.

We had a wonderful weekend. I'm hoping that this coming weekend is as wonderful. Sam and his brother are going to be doing the Spartan Race on Saturday. I still can't believe he signed up for this crazy race but he's really excited about it, so I'm excited for him. Hopefully he stays in one piece.

Twenty-Seventh Heaven

So, this past weekend I turned the dreaded 27. Does that make me late twenties? Or is that still mid-twenties? Ugh... either way it's OLD. Haha.

Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I'm a planner. I plan everything. I'm that annoying person who plans every minutes of a vacation. My 21st birthday, in Vegas, for example, I made and printed out an itinerary for everyone there. Yes, I'm THAT kind of person. It drives some people crazy but some peoples disorganization drives ME crazy so we can call it even.

ANYWAYS... the reason I got ON this tangent is, that I had originally planned a girls weekend up in San Fran for my birthday but, last minute the plans fell through.
Not gunna lie, I was pretty devastated and, to me, doing nothing isn't an option. So, I decided to invite a handful of girls to my family's house in the desert for a last minute girls weekend there and surprisingly, most girls were able to come!

I was so excited for the weekend and I took Friday off work to get things done around the house, pack, and buy myself some birthday goodies at my fav spot, Forever 21. I spent more than I should have but I mean, it was for my birthday!
And of course, a party isn't a party without an excessive amount of jello shots. Pretty sure I made over 150. What some might call excessive, I call being prepared. Haha.

So, a few days before my birthday I saw this photo on instagram:
I thought it was hilarious and I re-posted it and said "I'm really hoping not to get something like this on Sunday."

My friends Allison, Danielle and Jacky showed up to the house on Saturday with this cake:
I was DYING. I couldn't believe they got it! It was hilarious.
The funny thing is, we didn't even notice it said "drink problem" until like the next day. Haha.

We spent a good chunk of the weekend either watching, quoting or singing songs from this movie:
And toasting jello shots of course (and yes, I'm aware jello shots are "SO 22" but I love them, and, after all, it was MY birthday).
After a long, fun, relaxing Saturday we all got dressed up and headed to the casino where they have this really great cocktail lounge. Like most girls, I love any excuse to get dressed up (and take photos).
Danica and I have been friends for more years than I'd like to admit and I must say, this is one of the best photos the two of us have ever taken... ever.
We had so much fun at the "Twelfth Floor Lounge"... as you can see...

And as the clock struck 12 all the girls decided to embarrass me to death and sing happy birthday.
(sorry it's so dark and small, it's from my phone)

no idea what I'm looking at here
Once I got home from my wonderful weekend getaway I got ready for a birthday dinner at Asada in Laguna Beach. It was sooo good, and a great way to end my birthday weekend. With all the people I love the most. Thanks to everyone who made my birthday so special. I love you all.

Cheers to 27!

Twenty Six... IN PICS!

As much as it pains me to say, it's time for me to turn another year older. Twenty six was a good year and I can't wait to see what twenty seven has in store. My grandma told me this Christmas that twenty seven was her best year so we'll see if mine is as good as hers.

But for now, lets take a look at all the fun I had during twenty six.

I had a great birthday dinner and duffy ride with some of my best girls for my birthday.
Followed by spending the day at Disneyland with my bf.

And I rounded out the birthday fun with a dinner at my favorite resteraunt (Tantalum in Long Beach) with my close friends and family.
This year I also took the plunge and, after twelve years of wearing contacts I FINALLY got LASIK eye surgery. (Which you can read about in my two part blog post here and here.)

Had a ton of fun at the Color Run with my best friend Danica. (which you can read about here.)
Took a trip out to Indio for the annual Stagecoach country music festival.
Saw Jered Weaver pitch a no-hitter!
Saw Chris Carrabba play at the House of Blues.
Saw Kelly Clarkson and The Fray at the Hollywood Bowl with Danica and Kristy
Had the AWESOME once in a lifetime opportunity to ride in a Zeppelin!

I got to be a part of my good friend Haley's special day.

Celebrated being with this handsome man for one whole year with a wonderful weekend in San Diego.
Danica and I went and saw Theresa Caputo (The Long Island Medium) for her birthday.
Enjoyed the Huntington Harbor Boat Parade.
And had a wonderful Christmas with all the people that I love.

I can't imagine twenty seven being much better than twenty six but I guess only time will tell!

I had a wonderful birthday weekend with friends and family and I'll be doing a post on that soon :)
